The English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP):

The Miami Dade College English for Academic Purposes Program is designed to prepare you for the academic challenge of a degree-seeking College track. EAP students are prepared to pursue study any of the following careers:

  • Associate in Arts (A.A.)
  • Associate in Science (A.S.)

The English for Academic Purposes Program is composed of six levels of four required content areas: grammar, writing, speech/listening, and reading. Placement into one of the six levels is determined by the English Placement Test and a required writing sample. Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students take the College Placement Test (CPT) to begin a degree-seeking program at Miami Dade College.

The highly-qualified faculty of the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program hold advanced degrees in their fields and have been published in leading academic journals.

Financial aid is available for this program.

The English for Speakers of Other Languages Program (ESOL):

The Miami Dade College English for Speakers of Other Languages Program is composed of a series of non-credit courses, offered for enhancement of occupational or professional skills, preparation for university admission tests, or personal enrichment.

Students in the program are able to pursue certificate programs in the folowing areas:

  • Childcare
  • etc.

The English for Speakers of Other Languages Program is composed of four levels of intensive, non-academic English: beginning, low-intermediate, high-intermediate, and advanced. Placement into one of the six levels is determined by the TABE Test and a required writing sample. After satisfactorily completing the ESOL program, students can pursue a certificate program at Miami Dade College.

The Language Institute:

The Miami Dade College Language Institute is a less-rigourous program designed primarily for personal enrichment and practice in conversational English without pursuing a College degree program.

Students in the program are able to pursue certificate programs in the folowing areas:

  • Childcare
  • etc.
